BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies took its second ACC loss of the season on Saturday, falling to the No. 13 Duke Blue Devils by final score of 7-1.
Sophomore Emma Lemley (16-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (26-7, 8-2), giving up seven runs, six of them earned.
Senior Jayme Bailey led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Bailey put Virginia Tech on the board with a one-out solo home run off freshman Cassidy Curd. The Hokies were unable to get any closer, as Duke added five runs, led by a grand slam from Ana Gold, to their tally in the top of the seventh on the way to a 7-1 final.
