DURHAM, N.C. – Due to unrelenting rainfall in the Durham area on Saturday, the Virginia Tech baseball team's series opener at Duke – as scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field – has been canceled, as announced by the Duke athletic department. The game will not be rescheduled.
In addition to Saturday's cancellation, first pitch of Sunday's doubleheader between Virginia Tech and Duke at Jack Coombs Field has been moved back to 1 p.m. (previously 12 p.m.). Both games will air live on ACC Network Extra with game two beginning approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Friday's initial series opener between Virginia Tech and Duke was postponed yesterday due to steady rainfall in the Durham area and rescheduled into Sunday's doubleheader. At best, the Hokies and the Blue Devils will complete two of their three scheduled games this weekend.
Virginia Tech (17-10, 4-8 ACC) continues to ride consecutive series-clinching victories against then-No. 5 Virginia (April 1-2), though Sunday will mark one week since the Hokies last took the field competitively. Duke (19-10, 6-6 ACC) has won five of its last seven games, having posted its third straight victory on Tuesday courtesy of its ranked takedown of No. 14 Campbell (15-6).
