No. 11/13 Hokies set for series at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 11/13 Virginia Tech softball team is set for its second ACC series, taking on the North Carolina Tar Heels in a three-game series from March 10-11. Due to weather, the Hokies will play a single game on Friday, with a doubleheader on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
 
The Hokies have won three games this week, sweeping Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader on Tuesday, followed by a run rule of Gardner-Webb on Wednesday before making the trip to Chapel Hill. Tech defeated the Mount 6-5, followed by a 10-2 (5 inn.) victory. The Gardner-Webb score was 15-3 in favor of the Hokies. Tech has hit 12 home runs over the past three games, Adding to the season total with 45 now on the year. The Hokies have outscored opponents 31-10 over 17 innings played this week. In the circle, Lyndsey Grein recorded wins in game one vs. Mount St. Mary's and Gardner-Webb. Emma Lemley came on in relief to take the game two win over the Mount.
 
ACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
 
For the second straight week, Lemley was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on March 7, her fifth career weekly honor. Lemley went 3-0 on the weekend, earning her first three ACC wins of the season. She gave up only one run in 16 innings pitched, striking out 24 and walking two. She finished the weekend with a .132 batting average against.
 
STOP US IF YOU'VE HEARD IT…
 
The Hokies continue to launch the long ball, hitting seven home runs in the run rule of Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. Seven different Hokies each recorded a home run, with the majority of Tech's starting line up now with a home run. Emma Ritter, Addy Greene and Jayme Bailey each have six home runs, with Bre Peck right behind with five. Twelve different Hokies have tallied a home run this season as the Hokies are 21 home runs away from matching their season total from last year.
 
UP NEXT
 
Following this weekend, the Hokies will play a midweek at App State on March 15 before heading down to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech from March 17-19.
