ELON, N.C. – Ella Rishko's five goals carried Virginia Tech to a 17-11 road win against Elon on Wednesday night.

Rishko joined Olivia Vergano and Blair Guy as one of three Hokies to score three-plus goals in Wednesday's game against the Phoenix. The last time that Tech had three players with three or more goals apiece was in its 21-10 victory over Furman on March 15, 2022.

Vergano opened the scoring less than 60 seconds into the contest to get Tech started on the right foot. However, Elon would outscore the Hokies 5-1 for the rest of the first quarter and headed into the second period with a 5-2 lead.

The Hokies came out rejuvenated in the second quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to take the game back into their hands. Kayla Frank, Hannah Mardiney and Olivia Vergano beat the Elon goalie once in the quarter, while freshman Rishko scored her first two.

In line with the theme of the game, however, the Phoenix closed out the half with a 3-0 run and took an 8-7 lead into the break.

The second half was all Hokies, as Tech scored five goals in both the third and fourth quarter to pull away from Elon.

Rishko scored three goals in the third to set Virginia Tech apart from the hosts, while Guy had a three-goal quarter of her own in the fourth.

Jocelyn Torres bounced back after allowing eight first-half goals by making five saves in the second half and restricting the Phoenix to three goals.

The Hokies will be back in action in Blacksburg on Saturday for an ACC matchup with Pitt at noon.
