SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK

  • NC State fell to Duke, 71-67, in its last regular season game on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
  • In the Wolfpack's last six games, graduate guard Jarkel Joiner averaged 23.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, including a 26-point performance to close out the season against Duke.
  • NC State's 22 regular-season wins are the most by a Wolfpack team since the 2012-13 season and its 12 ACC wins tie the program record that has been achieved four times, most recently in 1972-73.

The Series

  • Despite winning four of the last six matchups, Tech trails NC State in the all-time series, 42-19.
  • Without Hunter Cattoor in the lineup due to injury, NC State prevailed 73-69 in Blacksburg on Jan. 7 – this season's lone meeting between the two sides. Darius Maddox drilled a trio of 3-pointers to highlight a 13-4 Tech run over the final 55 seconds of the game.
  • They split the season series in 2021-22, with each side winning on the road.
  • Tech is 0-2 all-time against the Wolfpack in the ACC tournament. Their last meeting came in 2013 in Greensboro (80-63).

HOKIE HEADLINES

  • Grant Basile has scored double figures in 16 straight games. He has broken the 20-point mark in seven of the last 13 contests. Over the last 13 games, Basile is averaging 20.6 ppg.
  • Hunter Cattoor is first in the league in 3FG% at 43.3% (74-171). He's had at least three treys in six of his last seven games.
  • Justyn Mutts notched his ninth double-double of the season against Notre Dame Tuesday night (18p/13r).
  • Rodney Rice came up clutch with a 3-pointer at the 1:53 mark of the second half, which ignited a 9-2 surge by the Hokies to close the game vs. ND.

LAST NIGHT'S MATCHUP

  • The Hokies escaped Mike Brey's final game at the helm of Notre Dame with a 67-64 triumph on Tuesday night. Justyn Mutts notched a double-double with 18 points and 13 boards.
  • Tech used a 9-0 run to grow a comfortable lead in the first half that was as large as 12 points with 7:02 remaining in the half. However, Notre Dame responded with a run of its own and the Hokies went into the break with a 33-32 lead.
  • Both sides exchanged blows in the second half, but the Fighting Irish held the lead for the greater portion of the second half.
  • Trailing by four points with 2:08 in the game, the Hokies used a handful of gutsy buckets from Rodney Rice and Justyn Mutts, along with Sean Pedulla free throws, to piece together a 9-2 run and advance to the next round.

UP NEXT

  • The winner of Wednesday's game will face third-seeded Clemson at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.
