No. 11/13 Hokies run rule Mount St. Mary's 10-2 to sweep doubleheader

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- No. 11/13 Virginia Tech closed out its Tuesday doubleheader with a win on Tuesday, run ruling Mount St. Mary's 10-2 in five hinnings. The Tech bats got hot late, scoring 10 runs and hitting three homers.

Sophomore Emma Lemley (10-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (16-4). The right-hander went two shutout innings without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out four. Sophomore Molly Jacobson started the ballgame and went three innings, surrendering two runs, one earned, on six hits, walking none and striking out seven.

Senior Jayme Bailey led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Emma Jackson went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Kylie Aldridge also chipped in, going 1-for-2 for Virginia Tech with a home run, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Jackson put Virginia Tech on the board with a one-out solo home run off freshman Maddie Coleman.

The Mountaineers then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Hokies got back on the board in the fourth. Virginia Tech scored three times, with an output that included back-to-back homers from Bailey and Aldridge, which brought the Hokies lead to 4-2.

Virginia Tech held Mount St. Mary's without a run before expanding their lead to 10-2 the following inning. The Hokies bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Rachel Castine. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as Virginia Tech took the win.
