No. 10/13 Hokies ready for Mount St. Mary's and Gardner-Webb

BLACKSBURG – The No. 10/13 Virginia Tech softball team is set to take on Mount St. Mary's and Gardner-Webb this week, with a doubleheader vs. The Mount in Blacksburg on Tuesday, and a single game vs. the Runnin' Bulldogs on Wednesday in Boiling Springs.

LAST TIME OUT
 
Virginia Tech opened ACC play with a 3-0 sweep over NC State over the weekend. The Hokies took game one 7-0, game two 7-3 and game three 10-1 (6). Tech hit six home runs over the weekend to add to their season total, now with 33 on the year. Addy Greene had two home runs with five RBI to lead the Hokies, while Emma Ritter finished the weekend with a .455 batting average as the leadoff, recording five hits with two RBI and a home run. Jayme Bailey and Cameron Fagan also had home runs on the weekend in game three, as Fagan hit .400 with four hits and Bailey added three hits and a .375 average over the three games played.
 
ALL ABOUT THE BATS
 
The Hokie offense continued to shine in their ACC opening series, finishing the three games played with a .325 batting average, compared to a .134 put up by NC State. Tech recorded 25 hits, including eight extra base hits, scoring 24 runs and posting an on base percentage of .597. Five different Hokies recorded a home run, adding to the season total of 33. As of Monday, March 6, the Hokies are second in NCAA Division I with 1.83 home runs per game.
 
RING 'EM UP
 
Emma Lemley tallied 28 strikeouts over the weekend, including a 10-strikeout outing against NC State to open the series. She has four games so far this season with double-digit strikeouts and three games with 15+ strikeouts. Lemley ranks first in the ACC and fourth in NCAA with 99 total strikeouts on the season.

Following the game at Gardner-Webb, the Hokies will stay on the road, traveling to Chapel Hill for a three-game ACC series with the Tar Heels.
