NEWS & NOTES

THE SERIES

  • The Hokies are 1-14 all-time against the Orange with their lone win coming in dramatic double OT fashion in Blacksburg on April 7, 2018, as Tech claimed a 15-14 win.
  • Sunday's matchup will be the sixth game in a row that Syracuse has been a top-3 ranked team while meeting the Hokies.
  • Tech is 0-6 against the Orange in Syracuse, N.Y.

A WIN WOULD...

  • Be Virginia Tech's second road win of the season.
  • Be Virginia Tech's first win at Syracuse.
  • Be Virginia Tech's third ranked win under Kristen Skiera and 20th ranked win in program history.
  • Be Virginia Tech's highest ranked win in program history.

ONLY A FRESHMAN

  • Although they find themselves in a 1-3 hole to start the season, the Hokies can't cast blame on their freshman goalie Jocelyn Torres.
  • Through her first four games, Torres is second in the ACC in saves per game with 10.25.
  • Against No. 1 North Carolina, she recorded a season-high 15 saves. In Tech's two games against ranked opponents (No. 12 JMU and No. 1 North Carolina), Torres is averaging 12.5 saves and 9 GAA.

IN THE GAUNTLET

  • The Hokies knew heading into the season that their schedule would have them battle-tested, as nine 2022 NCAA tournament teams stand in Tech's way.
  • All three of Virginia Tech's losses (JMU, Mercer and UNC) this season have come to teams that claimed a conference championship in 2022 (JMU – regular season, Mercer – tournament, UNC – regular season and tournament).
