LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Tech Hokies rallied from tied 6-6 in the eighth inning to win in breathtaking fashion, securing a 9-7 victory over the VMI Keydets Tuesday.
Jonah Hurney (2-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (15-9). The left-hander went one inning, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Grant Umberger started the ballgame and went four innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking three and striking out six.
In the batter's box, the Hokies were led by Jack Hurley, who went 2-for-5 on the day with two home runs and three RBI. Carson Jones furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI. Garrett Michel also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and an RBI.

VMI came back to tie the contest at six before the Hokies reclaimed a 9-6 advantage in the ninth inning. Virginia Tech scored three times on home runs from Michel, Hurley, and Carson DeMartini. VMI put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hokies still held on for the 9-7 win.
