BLACKSBURG – The No. 11/14 Virginia Tech softball team continues its homestand at Tech Softball Park, hosting Liberty on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on ACCNX.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies went 3-1 last week, recording a sweep against Chattanooga and falling to Charlotte in a midweek on Wednesday. Tech recorded a 12-7 win on Friday to open the series, followed by a 4-1 and 9-5 win over the Mocs on Saturday to complete the sweep. The Hokies offense put up a .493 slugging percentage against the Mocs, including Grace Chavez with a 2.000 and Addy Greene with a 1.000. Chavez, Greene and Bre Peck had home runs, with Peck's being a grand slam to clinch the win in game three. All three of Virginia Tech's pitchers recorded a win in the series, with Emma Lemley, Molly Jacobson and Lyndsey Grein going 1-0 on the weekend.
STRIKEOUT LEADER
As of Monday, March 27, Emma Lemley leads all of NCAA Division I in strikeouts with 178. She recorded 21 strikeouts over the weekend to take the lead over Alabama's Montana Fouts. Lemley has had nine games so far this season with 10+ strikeouts, including a career-high of 17 put up against Arizona. The sophomore also ranks first in the ACC in strikeouts per seven innings with 11 and strikeout-to-walk ratio with 11.12.
WALK IT OUT
The Hokies set a new program record in game one against Chattanooga, walking 15 times against the Mocs. The previous record was 14 walks in a single game, set against Seton Hall in 2015. Kylie Aldridge also tied a single-game record with 4 walks in the game. Over the three games played against the Mocs, the Hokies walked 26 times and posted a .475 on base percentage over the weekend.
UP NEXT
The Hokies host their second ACC series at home this season, welcoming the No. 14/15 Duke Blue Devils to Blacksburg. The three-game series will take place March 31 – April 2, with Sunday's matchup on ACC Network at Noon.
