No. 11/14 Hokies take game two over Chattanooga 4-1

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 11/14 Virginia Tech softball team secured the series against the Chattanooga Mocs Saturday afternoon, taking game two 4-1. Sophomore Emma Lemley fanned 12 Chattanooga hitters over seven innings of work to help earn her 15th win of the season.

In addition to her 12 strikeouts, Lemley (15-2) tossed seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and walking three for Virginia Tech (24-6).

Senior Grace Chavez led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Kylie Aldridge went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Junior Emma Ritter also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Virginia Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fifth inning. Virginia Tech plated two runs when Chavez left the yard with senior Jayme Bailey aboard.

The Mocs failed to push any runs across before the Hokies offense plated two more in the sixth inning. Virginia Tech brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Aldridge's single, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Hokies. Chattanooga put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hokies held on for the win.
