No. 11/14 Hokies fall to Charlotte 3-2

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 11/14 Virginia Tech softball team fell to Charlotte Wednesday afternoon, taking a 3-2 loss in Blacksburg.

Sophomore Emma Lemley struck out 14 Charlotte hitters over seven innings of work, but three solo home runs from the 49ers were the deciding factor in the game.

In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Lemley (14-2) tossed seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits and walking one for Virginia Tech (22-6).

Senior Jayme Bailey led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The 49ers hit a solo home run in the third, fourth and seventh innings to defeat the Hokies, with the solo shot in the top of the seventh the game-winning run. Bailey's two-run home run in the seventh brought the Hokies within one, but the comeback fell short.

The Hokies return to action on Friday, hosting Chattanooga in a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m.
