No. 13/15 Virginia Tech sweeps Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 13/15 Virginia Tech softball team closed out the weekend with a win, defeating Georgia Tech 5-1 to complete the sweep. This is the Hokies second ACC sweep of the season.

Sophomore Emma Lemley received the win on Sunday, fanning 11 Georgia Tech hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the Hokies over the Yellow Jackets. This is the sophomore's seventh outing of the season with double digit strikeouts.

In addition to her 11 strikeouts, Lemley (14-1) tossed seven innings, giving up one run on one hit and walking none for Virginia Tech (22-5, 8-1).

Sophomore Bre Peck led the way offensively for the Hokies with her third home run of the weekend, adding two RBI. Freshman Teagan Thrunk also knocked one over the fence, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Junior Addy Greene hit her second home run of the weekend, going 1-for-3 for Virginia Tech with a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Virginia Tech plated two runs when Peck left the yard with senior Jayme Bailey aboard.

The Yellow Jackets failed to push any runs across before the Hokies built on their lead in the fourth inning. Virginia Tech scored twice on solo home runs from Greene and Thrunk, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Hokies.

Georgia Tech narrowed Virginia Tech's lead to 4-1 on a solo home run before the Hokies stretched the advantage to 5-1 in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Thrunk to score Kelsey Bennett. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Virginia Tech took the sweep.
