No. 13/15 Hokies secure series win over Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, -- The No. 13/15 Virginia Tech softball team earned its third ACC series win of the season, sweeping Georgia Tech in a doubleheader on Saturday. Sophomore Bre Peck put together a a solid showing at the plate Saturday, hitting two home runs to help lead the Hokies over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 8-2.

Sophomore Molly Jacobson (2-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Virginia Tech (21-5, 7-1). The right-hander went 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. This is her first career ACC win. Sophomore Emma Lemley also made an impact in the circle for the Hokies, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout to earn her first save of the season.

Peck went 2-for-4 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with four RBI. Senior Jayme Bailey added to Peck's performance by going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI along with one walk. Senior Kelsey Bennett also helped out for the Hokies, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Virginia Tech got an RBI single from junior Cameron Fagan, scoring freshman Kylie Aldridge from second base.

The Hokies then held the Yellow Jackets scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Virginia Tech picked up a run on junior Addy Greene's leadoff home run off of senior Blake Neleman, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Hokies.

Tech built their lead to 5-0 in the sixth inning. The Hokies scored three on solo home runs from Bailey, Peck, and Bennett.

The Yellow Jackets closed the gap to 5-2 in the sixth until Virginia Tech added some insurance in the seventh. The inning resulted in three runs for the Hokies, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Peck to center, bringing the Virginia Tech advantage to 8-2. The score remained 8-2 for the rest of the game, as the Hokies took their second win of the day.
