For the first time ever, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will take the floor as a No. 1 seed Friday night when the fourth-ranked Hokies (27-4) will play the 16th-seeded Chattanooga Mocs (20-12) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tech, making its third consecutive appearance in the competition and 12th overall, is riding an 11-game winning streak, which includes capturing the program's first ACC Championship.
This week two Hokies, Elizabeth Kitley (Second Team) and Georgia Amoore (Honorable Mention) garnered All-American recognition from the Associate Press. For Kitley, the two-time ACC Player of the Year, it is her second consecutive AP honor. Amoore, the MVP of the ACC Tournament earned the recognition for the first time.

Chattanooga, led by former Virginia Tech Associate Head Coach Shawn Poppie, won the Southern Conference Tournament, with a 63-53 victory over Wofford in the championship game. In their contest against Wofford, Chattanooga had three players in double figures, led by Raven Thomas' 19 points.
This is Chattanooga's 16th tournament appearance, and first since 2017.
