BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team prepares for another ACC home stand hosting Louisville and No. 24 Notre Dame this weekend.
SATURDAY SWEEP
The Hokies are coming off an an impressive performance on the road against UNCW producing a 7-0 sweep. The win marked their fifth sweep of the season. Özlem Uslu has emerged as the top option for Tech on Court 1 going 3-1 in her first four matches there with a 10-3 record overall. Erika Cheng was on a 9-0 start to the season in singles before losing her first match of the year due to retirement. Charlotte Cartledge has filled the void going 3-1 in her absence. Tech has shuffled their doubles pairings around a bit but Semra Aksu and Tamara Barad Itzhaki still remain as the top duo so far this season with an 8-3 mark.
CARDINALS
Louisville arrives in Blacksburg picking up a much needed win, 7-0, against Xavier last weekend. The Cards had lost four-straight ACC matches leading into their bout with the Musketeers but found their footing moving to 8-3 at home this season. Sophomore Tyra Richardson leads the Cardinals singles during the 2022-23 campaign with a 9-4 record, mostly being played on Court 5. In doubles, Jamilah Snells and Cici Xin post a 7-3 record after starting the season 0-3.
FIGHTING IRISH
The Irish stumble into this weekends matchup after dropping a pair of matches to Duke and North Carolina earlier this month. No. 71 Page Freeman and No. 115 Julia Andreach lead Notre Dame in singles going 7-5 and 7-6, respectively. Rylie Hanford and Yashna Yellayi claim the top spot for the Irish in doubles with a record of 8-4. Andreach and Carrie Beckman rank as the No. 46 doubles pairing in the nation and hold an impressive record of their own at 8-3.
