BLACKSBURG – On a historic night for Justyn Mutts, Virginia Tech ended its ACC road slate on a high note with a 71-54 win at Louisville on Tuesday night.
MUTTS MAKES HISTORY
- With his sixth rebound of the night, Mutts reached 1,000 career boards. By doing so, he became the second active player in Division I men's basketball (Lipscomb's Ahsan Asadullah) to have 1,500+ points, 1,000+ rebounds and 400+ career assists.
- Mutts is the first player with 1,000+ points and 1,000+ boards that Mike Young has coached in his 21-year career.
TEXTBOOK HOKIE HOOPS
- Virginia Tech has made a name for itself under Young as a team that protects and shares the basketball.
- The Hokies certainly did that on Tuesday night, as they tied their season-low in turnovers with five. Tech recorded assists on 66.7% (16 of 24) of made baskets, as well.
- Another facet of the Hokies' game is success from beyond the arc. After a slow 0-6 start from deep, Tech made 10 of its final 23 attempts from three.
SHUTTING IT DOWN FROM DEEP
- Louisville shot 2-14 from beyond the arc, marking the lowest total of treys made by a Tech opponent since Virginia made 0 on Feb. 14, 2022.
- The Cardinals were 0-8 from deep in the first half, which is the first time a team went scoreless from behind the 3-point line against the Hokies in the first half this season. Boston College was 0-6 from deep in the second half against Tech on Dec. 21, 2022.
