GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the fourth time in her career, Virginia Tech softball's Emma Lemley has been named ACC Pitcher of the Week. This is her first Pitcher of the Week accolade of the 2023 season.
The sophomore went 2-0 over the weekend, including a win over No. 9/13 Texas, the Hokies first win of the season over a top 25 opponent. Lemley threw all eight innings in the win, striking out seven, including the final two batters to strand the tying run at third in the bottom of the 8th. Lemley shut down the Longhorns in the final five innings of the game to help lead the Hokies to the comeback victory.
She followed that up with a 15-strikeout performance against Abilene Christian to close the weekend, her third game this season with 15+ strikeouts. The sophomore gave up only two hits and ended the weekend with an opponent batting average of just .164.
Lemley currently ranks first in the ACC and second nationally in strikeouts with 75. She is also third in the ACC in strikeout-to-walk ratio. Lemley has six victories on the season which leads the conference and is also first in shutouts with two.
