No. 10/12 Virginia Tech falls to No. 9/13 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 10/12 Virginia Tech softball team fell in its second game of the day on Saturday, taking an 8-2 loss to No. 9/13 Texas. Senior Morgan Overaitis recorded two extra base hits and had an RBI, with Kelsey Bennett hitting a solo home run to record the second RBI.

Freshman Lyndsey Grein (3-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (10-4).

Overaitis' two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day that included two doubles and an RBI. Senior Kelsey Bennett went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, her second home run of the weekend.  Junior Emma Ritter also chipped in for the Hokies, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies were trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Virginia Tech got on the board thanks to Overaitis' RBI double.

The Longhorns expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Hokies offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. Virginia Tech picked up a run on Bennett's leadoff home run off of sophomore Mac Morgan, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Longhorns. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
