CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Sophomore Emma Lemley, punched out a career-high 17 Arizona hitters in a complete game effort, but it was not enough as the No. 8 Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the No. 10 Wildcats 6-2.
Lemley (3-1) threw seven innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on seven hits and walking two for Virginia Tech (6-3).
At the plate, the Hokies were led by senior Morgan Overaitis, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Sophomore Bre Peck put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Overaitis put Virginia Tech on the board with a two-out solo home run off junior Devyn Netz.
The Hokies deficit grew to 6-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. Virginia Tech pushed across a run on Peck's RBI double, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Wildcats.
