BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech lacrosse returns to Thompson Field for its second home game of the week, as Mercer visits at noon on Sunday.

ABOUT THE HOKIES…
The Hokies are off to a 1-1 start for the fourth year in a row and seeking a 2-1 record for the fourth time, as well. In its first two games, Tech has registered strong outings from its veteran defense and freshman goalie Jocelyn Torres. Having faced two solid opponents in VCU and No. 12 JMU, Tech has an 8.00 goals against average. 
 
ABOUT THE BEARS…
Mercer was picked to finish first in the Big South in the league's preseason poll. Three seniors on the team (Chloe Schaeffer, Lyndsey Lewis, Emma Pizzo) were selected to the preseason All-Conference team, as well.
 
In 2022, Mercer claimed the Big South tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
 
THE SERIES
Sunday's match with be the first meeting between Mercer and Virginia Tech. In fact, the Hokies are only the third ACC opponent to face Mercer since its program began in 2015, joining Louisville and North Carolina. Tech is 29-4 against current teams representing the Big South. Its last loss to a Big South opponent came to High Point on Feb. 20, 2015. 
 
CLEAR IT OUT
Virginia Tech boasted the NCAA Division I's best clearance rate last season - executing a successful clear on 287 of 307 (93.5%) of attempts. Through two games this season, Tech is 32 of 33 (97.0%).
