Amoore leads all scorers with 25 points in Virginia Tech's 84-70 win against Florida State

BLACKSBURG, VA --Georgia Amoore totaled 25 points to help lead the Virginia Tech women's basketball team over the Florida State Seminoles 84-70 at home Sunday.

Amoore added nine assists to her 25 point game to lead the Hokies (20-4, 10-4). Taylor Soule helped out with 18 points and D'asia Gregg chipped in with seven points and 12 rebounds coming off the bench.

The Virginia Tech offense was very productive from beyond the arc, making 14 threes on 32 attempts. Amoore was the most prolific shooter for the Hokies, draining six treys in the contest.

The Virginia Tech defense was a problem in Sunday's game, forcing 14 Florida State turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the other end of the floor. Kayana Traylor led the way individually for the Hokies with two steals.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 17-6 advantage, Virginia Tech went on a 10-0 run with 4:32 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Cayla King, to increase its lead to 27-6. The Hokies then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 34-11 advantage. Virginia Tech relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 34 points.

Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 2:35 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 47-22. The Seminoles cut into that lead, but the Hokies still enjoyed a 47-25 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 13 points.

Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 10-0 run to expand its lead further to 61-39 with 3:05 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Seminoles had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hokies still entered the fourth quarter with a 64-47 edge. Virginia Tech played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.

The Hokies then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 20 points in the paint.
