BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's tennis suffered its first loss of the season to Charlotte on Saturday afternoon on the road, 3-4.
It took everything the Hokies had and then some to earn their fifth doubles point of the season. All three doubles pairings for Tech fell behind early but the Hokies remained poised with Dariya Radulova and Katie Andreini storming back to win 6-4 on Court 1. Erika Cheng and Özlem Uslu clawed their way back from a deficit of their own to force a tiebreak, winning 77-65 to put Tech up 1-0.
It was a different story for the Hokies in singles. Semra Aksu and Özlem Uslu fought valiantly to force a third set in both of their respective matches but ran out of gas in the final set. Tamara Barad Itzhaki picked up her sixth win of the season in as many matches to claim the first singles point for Tech, 6-1, 6-4. Erika Cheng moved to 5-0 with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 victory for the second singles win of the day for Tech.
