WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Sophomore Emma Lemley earned her second win of the season, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the No. 11 Virginia Tech Hokies past the UNC Wilmington Seahawks 6-0.
Lemley (2-0) went the distance for Virginia Tech (3-0), giving up one hit, walking none and striking out nine.
Offensively, the Hokies were led by senior Jayme Bailey, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Bre Peck hit her second home run of the weekend, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior Cameron Fagan continued her hitting streak, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was scoreless through three innings until the Hokies took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Peck put Virginia Tech on the board with a one-out solo home run off sophomore Kara Hammock.
The Hokies then tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored four times led by the three-run home run off the bat of Bailey.
