RALEIGH, N.C. – Georgia Amoore scored 27 points and Elizabeth Kitley added 25 and the No. 11 Virginia Tech women's basketball team beat the No. 22 NC State Wolfpack 73-61 on the road Monday.
The Hokies (19-4, 9-4 ACC) had three players score in double figures, led by Amoore, who had 27 points and six assists. Kitley tacked on a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds and Cayla King chipped in as well with 10 points.
The Virginia Tech offense was very productive from beyond the arc, knocking down nine threes on 19 attempts. Amoore was the most prolific shooter for the Hokies, draining five treys in the contest.
Virginia Tech's defense held NC State to only 40 percent shooting from the field. The Wolfpack did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with seven offensive rebounds and managed seven second chance points while Virginia Tech cleared 32 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened
Virginia Tech started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run to take an early lead with 8:21 left in the first quarter. The Hokies then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 22-18 advantage. Virginia Tech relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 22 points.
Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 4:00 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from King, to increase its lead to 37-26. The Hokies kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 39-28 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech scored four of its 17 total points in the period on second chance opportunities created by pulling down three offensive rebounds.
Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Amoore, to expand its lead further to 58-48 with five seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Virginia Tech knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Virginia Tech kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Kitley's layup, to grow the lead to 69-53 with 4:27 to go in the contest. The Wolfpack narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hokies still cruised the rest of the way for the 73-61 win. Virginia Tech fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 15 points.
