Hokies continue good form at home

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech women's tennis earned their second sweep of the season defeating Richmond on Saturday.

It was frigid morning outside of the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center but the Hokies were red-hot all day long. Dariya Radulova and Katie Andreini made quick work of their Spider challengers in a 6-0 victory. Tamara Barad Itzhaki and Semra Aksu got it done on court three, 6-4, to put Tech ahead 1-0.

Erika Cheng scored a double bagel on court five to put the Hokies further out in front, 2-0. Freshman Özlem Uslu continued to add to an already impressive start to her career with straight set victory, 6-2, 6-1. Semra Aksu and Barad Itzhaki joined the party claiming two-set wins of their own to put Tech in position for their second consecutive sweep.

Dariya Radulova brought out the brooms for the Hokies grinding out a 10-7 win in the third set tiebreak bringin her singles record to 3-1 on the year.

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech women's tennis added another win over a commonwealth foe, sweeping Radford Saturday evening.

The battle for the New River Valley took place in Blacksburg with Terry-Ann Zawacki-Holdren and Co. adding another sweep to their resume.

Dariya Radulova and Katie Andreini notched their second doubles victory on the day, 6-2, along with Tamara Barad Itzhaki and Semra Aksu, 6-3, to produce the doubles point for the Hokies.

Katie Andreini won 6-2, 6-0 in a match where she seemed to be gaining confidence with each game. In her first match on court one, Özlem Uslu look like a veteran dispatching her Highlander foe 6-1, 6-1. The clinching point for the Hokies came on court three where Barad Itzhaki added her fifth win of the season, 6-3, 6-2.

Erika Cheng finished the day conceding just two games in four total singles matches played in a 6-0, 6-2 win. In her first singles action this spring, Charlotte Cartledge dominated in a 6-2, 6-1 victory. 

Sabina Richtrova followed suit in her own singles debut with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1,1-0 win putting the Hokies at 5-0 and claiming their third consecutive sweep.

The Hokies will head on the road to face UNC Charlotte on Saturday, February 11, at 1 p.m.
