BOONE, NC – Virginia Tech wrestling's redshirt freshmen No. 27 Eddie Ventresca and Jackson Spires won titles in their respective weight classes at the 2023 App State Open on Saturday to lead the Hokies in the last open tournament of the season. Redshirt sophomore Sam Fisher and redshirt junior Kolton Clark both finished third at 184-pounds and 174-pounds, respectively, to round out Hokie placers over the weekend.
Ventresca put forth a dominant showing in North Carolina, putting up 38 points in three bouts on Saturday – 16-1 tech fall over William Bishop (Reinhardt University), 16-0 tech fall over Robbie Hunt (North Carolina), and a controlling 6-0 decision over Peyton Fenton (Virginia). The title marks Ventresca's third open tournament title of the season.
