BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech was firing on all cylinders on Saturday night inside Cassell Coliseum, as the Hokies earned an 85-70 win over Syracuse.

BASILE IS ROLLING

  • Grant Basile had his second 25+ point scoring performance against Syracuse this season. At 'Cuse's place on Jan. 11, the Wright State transfer had 26 points.
  • Over his last five games, Basile is averaging 20.0 points and 7.2 rebounds.
  • In three of those games, he's eclipsed double-digit field goals made and knocked down at least one trey in all five contests.

TAKE ONE DOWN, PASS IT AROUND

  • The Hokies set a new program best for assists in an ACC game, dishing out 26 dimes on 32 field goals made Saturday night. Virginia Tech last bested the 26 assists mark in any game on Nov. 20, 2019 against Delaware State (29).
  • Tech had two players – Justyn Mutts and Hunter Cattoor – with eight assists. The last time two players reached that mark in the same game was against Syracuse on Jan. 26, 2019 when Justin Robinson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker both had eight.
  • Mutts flirted with his second career triple-double, falling just two assists shy. Ironically, his first triple-double came against Syracuse last season when he had 12 points, 14 boards and 11 assists.

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST

  • Virginia Tech wasn't shy about letting the 3-ball fly last night, putting up 32 attempts, which is the most in a game since trying 37 against Coppin State on Dec. 19, 2020.
  • The green light made sense early, as the Hokies shot 11-20 (55%) from deep in the first half. Those 11 makes from beyond the arc in the first half tied an ACC-era record and marked the first time the Hokies achieved that number against a league foe.
  • Basile and Cattoor also reached 20+ points, which is the second time multiple Tech players have met the 20-point mark in the same game this season. The other occurrence also came against Syracuse.
