Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG, VA -- The Virginia Tech women's basketball team downed the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 74-57 at home Sunday behind Elizabeth Kitley's 12 made field goals making her the programs all-time leader with 704.
The Hokies (16-3, 6-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Kitley, who secured a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Georgia Amoore tacked on 17 points and six assists and Taylor Soule helped out with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Virginia Tech shared the ball well in Sunday's game, racking up 17 assists on 27 made field goals. Amoore's six assists paced the Hokies.
Virginia Tech forced 16 Wake Forest turnovers while committing 10 themselves in Sunday's game. The Hokies turned those takeaways into 21 points on the other end of the floor. Kitley's two steals led the way for Virginia Tech.

How It Happened
After falling behind 10-8, Virginia Tech went on a 6-0 run with 2:22 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from D'Asia Gregg, to take a 14-10 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Virginia Tech did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 14 points close to the basket.
Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 9-0 run starting at the 8:29 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 25-13. The Hokies proceeded to tack on three points to that lead and enjoyed a 35-20 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 21 points.
Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Soule, to expand its lead further to 45-29 with 5:28 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Demon Deacons had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hokies still entered the fourth quarter with a 53-50 edge.
Virginia Tech kept widening that lead, expanding it to 61-54 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Kayana Traylor's jumper, to grow the lead to 68-54 with 3:14 to go in the contest. The Hokies kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 74-57 win. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 21 points in the paint.
