No. 12 women’s basketball team heads to Pitt for Thursday night tilt

The 12th-ranked Virginia Tech women's basketball team will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a matchup with the 7-10 (0-6) Pitt Panthers.

Last time on the court, VT defeated Louisville 81-79 at Cassell Coliseum, the first win over the Cardinals since 1995 (nine-game losing streak). Taylor Soule scored 24 points and Elizabeth Kitley added 20 in the victory.

  • Center Elizabeth Kitley needs nine FGs to set the program record in that category. She enters the contest with 686, Tere Williams' record is 694. 
  • Kitley has scored nine or more field goals 28 times in her career, including five times this season.

 
TAYLOR SOULE & ELIZABETH KITLEY REPRESENT DYNAMIC DUO 

  • There are 30 active D1 WBB athletes who have scored 1,700 or more career points. 
  • Two of those are Hokies Taylor Soule (1,724) and Elizabeth Kitley (1,706).
  • Tech's duo constitutes one of three pairs of teammates to accomplish the feat this season alongside Iowa's Caitlin Clark (2,387) and Monica Czinano (2,082) and Oklahoma's Taylor Robertson (2,148) and Madi Williams (2,107).
  • The only other ACC WBB athletes to register 1,700 points are Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair (2,387) and Miami's Haley Cavinder (1,873).

 
KAYANA TRAYLOR IN GOOD COMPANY

  • According to Her Hoop Stats, Kayana Traylor against Louisville became the third Hokie since 2009-10 to record 15+ points, 3+ 3FG, 1+ steals and 2+ blocks in an ACC game. She finished the game with 17 points (6-9 FG), three 3-pointers, two blocks and a steal. 
  • The other VT players to do it are Regan Magarity (Feb. 17, 2019 vs. GT) and Monet Tellier (March 1, 2012 vs. Wake Forest).
