GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Victoria Haugen was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Haugen is the first athlete from Virginia Tech to earn a conference honor this season.
Haugen "Dori" also earned College Soccer News Women's National Team of the Week honors on Monday, Sept. 26. She was one of three athletes from the ACC to be named on the list this week.
She played a vital part in the Hokies 2-0 win over Wake Forest on Sunday, blocking several of the Demon Deacons' attacks. The Hokies kept Wake Forest down to nine shots allowing only two on goal. In Tech's Thursday match-up versus #22 NC State, Haugen and her teammates stopped the Wolfpack from scoring in a 1-0 shutout for the Hokies. Haugen played the full 90 minutes in both games leading to two clean sheets in ACC competition on the road.
"I am proud of Dori's efforts this weekend," said head coach Chugger Adair. "She was committed and strong as we brought her into the game plan of defending two very good teams. Dori is a big part of our defense as a leader and she the ability to cover across the back line."
The Hokies return to Blacksburg on Saturday, Oct. 1, to take on #3 North Carolina at 7:00 p.m.
