Hokies open ACC play at Clemson and Georgia Tech

BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech volleyball team is back on the road with a match set for Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Clemson. The Hokies will then travel to Atlanta to take on No. 13 Georgia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.

Scouting Clemson
 
Clemson enters ACC play with a 9-3 nonconference record. The Tigers are on a two-match win streak, similar to the Hokies, after defeating Samford 3-1 and Murray State 3-2 during the Samford Invitational. So far this season, Ani Clark has 72 kills with a hitting percentage of .359 to lead the team. Camryn Hannah currently leads the Tigers in kills with 189, with an average of 4.02 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .290. Defensively, Devan Taylor is leading the Tigers in digs with 214 so far this season, with an average of 4.37 digs per set.
 
Scouting Georgia Tech
 
Georgia Tech enters ACC play ranked No. 13 with a nonconference record of 7-2. The Yellow Jackets' two losses came at the hands of No. 5 Ohio State and No. 24 Arkansas. This past weekend, the Yellow Jackets swept Georgia 3-0. Julia Bergmann currently leads Georgia Tech and the ACC in kills with 207, and an average of 6.09 kills per set. Bianca Bertolino leads the Yellow Jackets in digs with 114 (10th in the ACC) with an average of 3.68 digs per set.
 
ACC Play
 
The ACC currently has three teams ranked in the top 25; Louisville is ranked No. 2, while Pitt is No. 10 and Georgia Tech is No. 13. While none of these teams are undefeated overall, the Hokies are one of four teams who remain undefeated at home along with Boston College, Duke and Florida State. As a whole, the ACC is 115-48 in nonconference play.
 
ACC Rankings
 
Anabel Zier currently ranks fourth in the conference in blocks per set with 1.27. She has 47 total, which also ranks fourth in the conference. Maddie Slagle is also ranked in the ACC in digs, sitting at fourth with 150. Her 3.39 digs per set also puts her at sixth in the ACC.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies will return to Cassell Coliseum on Friday, Sept. 30 to take on Boston College at 6 p.m. Tech will then host Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
