BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech women's golf team is set to open its season with the 54-hole Mercedes-Benz Collegiate hosted by Tennessee at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville on Monday, Sept. 19 and Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Set to play in the tournament for the second straight year, the Hokies placed ninth out of 17 teams in 2021. Tech's first lineup of the season will feature four returning players and one newcomer: seniors Becca DiNunzio, Symone Henriques and Alyssa Montgomery, sophomore Ginnie Lee and freshman Morgan Ketchum.
Lee led the Hokies at this event last year by tying for fourth with a 1-under 212, which was her season-best finish.
The Mercedes-Benz Collegiate field will be a strong test, headlined by ACC foes Wake Forest and Virginia. Ten of the 14 teams competing at this event advanced to NCAA regionals last May.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday's shotgun start is scheduled for 8:45 a.m.
Following the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate, the women's golf team will travel next to the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 24 – Monday, Sept. 26.
