Hokies open fall with promising showing at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Two newcomers and two returners picked up wins for Virginia Tech over the weekend at the Duke Bonk Inivitational. Ryan Morgan and Manuel Goncalves shined in singles and as a doubles pair, while Jordan Chrysostom and Alvaro Saez-Royeula Ariza added to the positive results for the Hokies in Durham, N.C. 
 
On Friday, Sept. 16, Ariza started the day off strong with a two-set victory. He followed up that singles showing with a win in doubles with Chrysostom. The new Hokies, Goncalves and Morgan, teamed up for a doubles win, as well.
 
Morgan and Goncalves continued their good form on Saturday, Sept. 17 with a pair of singles wins. Chrysostom also added two singles wins – one in two sets and one in three.
 
Ariza wrapped up the weekend for Tech with a win in three on Sunday.
 
The Hokies will send Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback to the ITA All American event on Oct. 1, while the team will next compete at the Richmond Invite on Oct. 7.
