1. At what age did you begin playing volleyball and what do you love most about playing?
JA: I started playing volleyball when I was 13 years old after being a competitive swimmer for seven years. I immediately fell in love with the sport because, unlike in swimming, you have to rely on your team to win. My favorite part about playing volleyball is that your team becomes your second family.
2. Why did you choose Virginia Tech?
JA: I chose Virginia Tech because I wanted to play for coaches who had a clear vision of the upwards direction the program was headed. Furthermore, Tech is known as one of the best universities both academically and athletically.
3. What are you most excited for as you head into your first season as a Hokie?
JA: As I head into my first season as a Hokie, I am most excited to upset the teams in the ACC that made it to the Sweet 16 last year :)
4. What position do you play and how did you begin playing that position?
JA: I've always been a setter. I didn't really have a position when I first started playing, but I quickly decided I wanted to be a setter because it is the only position on the court that touches the ball every play.
5. What is your major and why did you choose it?
JA: I am a Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise Major. I chose this major because I want to go to PT school when I graduate. I hope to either be a geriatric physical therapist or work as a PT for a professional sports team in the future.
6. Describe yourself in three words
JA: I'm hardworking, thoughtful and goofy.
7. What is your favorite place to eat at in Blacksburg so far?
JA: ROOTS!
8. What does it mean to you to be a Hokie?
JA: To me, being a Hokie means you are determined on and off the court, willing to sacrifice for your teammates, and committed to being a part of something bigger than yourself.
