Middle Blocker
Sophomore
1. At what age did you begin playing volleyball and what do you love most about playing?
RG: I started playing volleyball in fifth grade! The thing I love most about it is the competitive team culture on the court! Growing up, I played tennis (which is a very individual sport on the court), so being able to play with the support of your team right next to you, going through the same stressful moments, is an incredible feeling. More specifically, though, I love being a middle and having the opportunity to block everything on the other side of the net.
2. Why did you choose Virginia Tech?
RG: I chose Virginia Tech for many reasons, one being the school spirit within Blacksburg. I love how everyone comes together to support Hokie Nation at sporting events and around town. I also love the coaches/staff here and feel like they can push me to be the best person/player I can be. Plus, being in the ACC, there are tons of opportunities to compete at a high level.
3. What are you most excited for as you head into your first season as a Hokie?
RG: I am excited to play our first home game in Cassell with the girls!
4. What position do you play and how did you begin playing that position?
RG: I began playing middle my freshman year of high school. I started out as a setter, moved to the outside, then right side, but was forced to play middle when I started high school. I absolutely hated it for the entire season until I learned the importance of the position and stuck with it ever since.
5. What is your major and why did you choose it?
RG: My major is Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise because being a student-athlete, it's interesting to learn about how our workouts and the way we fuel our bodies is affecting our performance! I also want to become a physical therapist after school and feel that this is the best route for me to achieve that!
6. Describe yourself in four words
RG: Determined, analytical, present and understanding
7. What is your favorite place to eat at in Blacksburg so far?
RG: Mezeh is so good!
8. What does it mean to you to be a Hokie?
RG: Being a Hokie means representing Virginia Tech to the best of my abilities. Fighting for every game, being supportive of other sports and clubs, and having a presence in the community.
