Hokies earn USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, KY. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that the Virginia Tech volleyball team earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season. This is the fourth straight season, and the second straight season under head coach Marci Byers, that Tech has received the award by the AVCA.

The award, which was started in 1992-1993, honors teams that average a GPA of 3.30 or higher for the academic year. This past season, more than 1,200 collegiate and high school teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. This year, 215  NCAA Division I women's teams were recognized.

Tech excelled in the classroom during the fall of 2021, turning in its second straight semester with over a 3.0 GPA. The ACC named 12 volleyball student-athletes to the 2021-22 Academic Honor Roll and multiple student-athletes had a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Following the 2021 season, four members of the team were named to the 2021-22 All-Academic Team. Griere Hughes, Logan Mosely, Brie Postema and Tasha Vipond met the academic requirements of a 3.0 or better, while also making an impact on the court during the season.

The AVCA team award is the latest honor in an impressive run of academic achievements for the Hokies.
