Kenny Brooks' Virginia Tech women's basketball team will play host to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2022 ACC-B1G Challenge on December 1, the ACC announced Monday. Tip time and television designation will be announced at a later date.
Tech, who finished tied for third in the ACC last season, a program record, will face a Cornhusker team that went 11-7 in Big Ten play in 2021-22, good for a sixth-place finish. In ESPN's 'Way-Too-Early Top 25' the Hokies are ranked 15th, while Nebraska is 20.
The competition will return to Cassell Coliseum for the first time in three seasons after the Hokies were on the road in 2021 and the Challenge was not contested in 2020. At home, VT is 5-2 all-time in the competition.
Tech, one of the most successful teams in the Challenge in recent years, is one of two teams in either conference boasting a six-game winning streak in the competition, along with FSU who owns nine straight victories. Head Coach Kenny Brooks has an undefeated record of 5-0 in the Challenge since taking over the program in 2016 with wins against Nebraska, Illinois, Rutgers, Purdue and Wisconsin by an average margin of victory of 19.0 points.
The Hokies previously matched up with Nebraska in the 2016 Challenge recording a 76-67 victory, the only meeting in program history.
Tech owns a Challenge record of 8-6 since making its first appearance in the competition in 2007.
