GREENSBORO, N.C. – Caroline Bentz, Emma Atkinson, AJ Pouch and Forest Webb qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials during their time in Greensboro at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships. HIGHLIGHTS
Women
Junior Caroline Bentz brought her A game to Greensboro. She started day three with her first Olympic Trials qualifying time during prelims in the 100 back at 1:01.18. Bentz finished finals in fifth place with a time of 1:01.21. Taking that momentum into the next day, she qualified in the 200 back during finals on day four with a time of 2:12.25, finishing fifth.
Also swimming backstroke, Emma Atkinson showed out alongside Bentz. With a time just behind Bentz in the 100 back during day three prelims, Atkinson finished with a time of 1:01.40 qualifying for the Olympic Trials. She finished finals in sixth place with a time of 1:01.64. During day four prelims, Atkinson swam 2:12.64 in the 200 back, making her Olympic Trials cut. She later beat that time in finals, placing fourth with a time of 2:11.00.
Men
Continuing the strong backstroke performances, Nico Garcia Saiz made the A final during day four prelims in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.28. Making it on the podium during finals, he finished second overall in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.49.
Forest Webb started day three prelims with his first Olympic trials qualifying time in the 100 back, finishing with 55.54. He placed sixth overall during finals with a time of 55.71.
AJ Pouch finished off the U.S. Open strong. Pouch made the A final in the 200 breast during day four prelims with a time of 2:14.78. His time qualified for the Olympic trials. Pouch later went on to beat that time in finals, finishing fifth with a time of 2:13.06.
