As the 2022 calendar year comes to a close, Virginia Tech Athletics will spend the month of December celebrating the Hokies' standout achievements from the past 12 months in a campaign called "Moments of Excellence."
The "Moments of Excellence" campaign will serve as a look back to the historic highlights and memorable accomplishments in Tech Athletics during 2022. Each varsity sport program will have an outstanding moment featured during December on the official Virginia Tech Athletics website and @HokieSports social media properties. Fans can visit the Hokies' social media directory to stay in contact with Tech Athletics and their favorite sports teams.

Trevor Cone earning his PGA Tour card serves as the top moment of 2022 for Virginia Tech men's golf.
 The MOMENT

Former Virginia Tech standout Trevor Cone earned his PGA Tour card on Aug. 14 upon conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour regular season at the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

The Charlotte, North Carolina native was one of 25 golfers to earn their way to the PGA Tour following Sunday's final round. The top 25 players on the final Korn Ferry regular-season points list earned PGA Tour cards for the 2022-23 season. Cone finished 22nd on the Korn Ferry points list.

A two-time All-American at Tech, Cone will be making his debut on the PGA Tour. Cone became the fourth Hokie to earn his PGA Tour card, joining Johnson Wagner, Brendon de Jonge and Tim Collins, Jr.

Cone worked his way to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2018 following a successful two seasons on PGA Tour Canada. He captured the Korn Ferry Tour's AdventHealth Championship in Kansas City in May, marking his second KFT win of his career.

Cone made his PGA Tour debut at the Fortinet Championship in Napa, California in mid-September. Just two weeks later, Cone made his first cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi, tying for 45th at 6-under-par.

The 29-year-old still ranks third in career scoring average in Tech history at 72.14. He earned third-team All-America honors as a junior and honorable mention All-America distinction as a senior. Cone was part of a three-way tie for medalist honors at the 2015 ACC Men's Golf Championship.
