As the 2022 calendar year comes to a close, Virginia Tech Athletics will spend the month of December celebrating the Hokies' standout achievements from the past 12 months in a campaign called "Moments of Excellence."
The "Moments of Excellence" campaign will serve as a look back to the historic highlights and memorable accomplishments in Tech Athletics during 2022. Each varsity sport program will have an outstanding moment featured during December on the official Virginia Tech Athletics website and @HokieSports social media properties. Fans can visit the Hokies' social media directory to stay in contact with Tech Athletics and their favorite sports teams.
The MOMENT
Center Elizabeth Kitley became the first Virginia Tech women's basketball player to win ACC Player of the Year in 2022, capping off a sensational junior season. The 6-foot-6 Kitley also became the first Hokie to earn consecutive First Team All-ACC accolades ad was named to the 2022 All-Defensive Team.
Prior to the ACC Tournament, when the award was handed out, Kitley averaged 17.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game while shooting a league-best 53.8%. She earned four ACC Player of the Week honors, the most in the league.
The Summerfield, North Carolina native secured 14 double-doubles, the most in the conference and also registered 12 20-point performances this season. An All-Defensive Team selection, Kitley had six games with five or more blocks. She scored 34 points twice, and on one of those occasions, she scored 17 field goals, a program record.
Kitley led the Hokies in scoring 17 times and rebounds 21 times.
