BLACKSBURG – After wrapping up non-conference play with a convincing win over Grambling State last Saturday, Virginia Tech delves into its ACC slate on Wednesday evening at Boston College. Jon Meterparel and Chris Spatola will be on the call for the ACC Network for the 6:30 p.m. tipoff, while Zach Mackey and Mike Burnop provide coverage for the Virginia Tech Sports Network.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

  • Boston College enters this matchup with the Hokies after snapping a four-game skid with a win against Stonehill on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The Eagles' leading scorer Jaeden Zackery paced the team in scoring with 16 points, marking the fourth time in 12 games that he led his squad in scoring.
  • The Eagles have struggled to get it going on the offensive end so far this season, ranking 14th in the ACC in scoring offense (63.8). They rank 14th in the league in field-goal percentage (41.4%) and last in 3-point percentage (27.6%).
  • Earl Grant is in his second season as Boston College's head coach. Grant spent seven years at the helm of College of Charleston before heading to Chestnut Hill in 2021.

The Series

  • Tech will be searching for its first win in the BC series since Jan. 5, 2019 – a 77-66 victory for the Hokies in Blacksburg. 
  • The Eagles lead the all-time series, 21-13. 
  • Tech has fallen in its previous three encounters with Boston College, two of which have occurred in Chestnut Hill. 
  • Prior to the current three-game skid in the series, the Hokies had won five in a row. 
  • Tech is 4-13 all-time against the Eagles in Chestnut Hill. 
  • The Hokies will be seeking their first 12-1 start to a season since 2018-19. That year, Tech opened with a 14-1 ledger through its first 15 games. 

UP TO 21 IN THE AP POLL

  • On the strength of its six-game winning streak, Tech has risen to No. 21 in the AP Poll.
  • It's the Hokies' 87th appearance all-time in the AP Poll and their highest ranking since being No. 16 on Feb. 22, 2021. 
  • Tech is 3-4 all-time as the 21st-ranked team. 
  • Tech is one of four ACC teams ranked this week (Virginia, Duke and Miami). 
  • The Hokies are also up to No. 19 in the NET and are 3-1 in their Quad 1 games on the season. 

SHARING THE ROCK

  • Tech recorded 19 assists, which is tied for the most by the Hokies in a game this season (William & Mary). 
  • The Hokies assisted on 73.1% of its baskets Saturday night, which is a season best and the most since they assisted on 87% of their baskets against Syracuse on Feb. 12, 2022.
  • Pedulla led Virginia Tech with six assists, marking his third game with 6+ assists this season. His overall stat line of 21 points, six assists and five boards was his first career game of 20+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists.
