CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Virginia Tech's Olivia Vergano was named one of 15 ACC student-athlete recipients of the 2022 Go Teach Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway on Friday. Each recipient will receive $2,500 on behalf of the College Football Playoff Foundation and Dr Pepper to assist in their continued pursuit of a degree or career in education.
Vergano had a breakout freshman campaign in 2022, as she was named to the ACC's All-Freshman team and an Inside Lacross All-American honorable mention. The West Babylon, N.Y. native recorded 40 goals and five assists in 17 games for the Hokies last season. She secured 73 draw controls, which is the eight-most in a single season in Virginia Tech history.
Along with her accomplishments on the field, Vergano was named to the 2022 ACC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll. Vergano is studying Sports Media and Analytics in the Virginia Tech School of Communication.
Along with the tuition giveaway, the ACC and the CFP Foundation have announced they are funding $75,000 in classroom resource projects in three local markets - Chapel Hill (home of Coastal Division Champion North Carolina), Clemson (home of Atlantic Division Champion Clemson) and Charlotte (host city of the ACC Title Game).
