BLACKSBURG, VA --Georgia Amoore scored 20 points and Elizabeth Kitley had 16 more, but the Hokies fell to the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 63-52 at home Sunday.

The Hokies (10-1, 1-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Amoore, who had 20 points and four assists. Kitley tacked on a double-double with 16 points and 20 rebounds and Kayana Traylor added nine points.

Virginia Tech did a great job disrupting Notre Dame shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Kitley's four rejections led the way individually for the Hokies.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 7-6 advantage, Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run with 2:52 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 12-6. The Hokies then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 16-9 advantage. Virginia Tech got out and ran in the period, scoring four points on the break.

The Hokies surrendered their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime with the score tied 22-22. Virginia Tech scored one of its six total points in the period on second chance opportunities created by pulling down three offensive rebounds.

The contest remained level after halftime before Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Amoore, to grab a 43-38 lead with 1:16 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Fighting Irish had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hokies still entered the fourth quarter with a 43-40 edge. Virginia Tech knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 21 total points.

Notre Dame then erased the Virginia Tech lead in the game's final quarter for a 63-52 comeback victory. Virginia Tech pulled down two offensive rebounds to score two second chance points out of nine total in the period
