The Virginia Tech women's basketball program got off to a hot start in its season-opening rout (101-45) of visiting Mount St. Mary's Monday night on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum.
Cayla King stole the show with her record-breaking outing, but others impressed as well.
Below is a look at the top notes and performances from the game.
TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS
•The Hokies topped 100 points for just the 13th time in program history. It was the sixth time that the team broke the century mark on the opening day of the season. Under Kenny Brooks, VT has scored 100+ three times: Nov. 5, 2019 vs. Saint Francis (105), Feb. 17, 2022 at Syracuse (102) and Nov. 7, 2022 vs. Mount St. Mary's (101).
•VT boasted five athletes in double figures led by King (33). She was followed by Elizabeth Kitley (18), Taylor Soule (14), Georgia Amoore (11) and Kayana Traylor (11).
•Tech's offense was efficient all night as the Hokies shot 56.1% from the field which included 50% from deep (14-of-28) and VT took advantage of its opportunities at the free throw line making 23 of 27 attempts (85.2%).
•VT's defense stifled the Mountaineers, allowing just 26.8% shooting, 24.2% from beyond the arc and The Mount found limited opportunities at the free throw line with just eight attempts.
•The Hokies scored 20+ in each quarter of the game.
•VT dominated in many statistical categories compared to Mount St. Mary's including: points off TO (34-11), paint points (30-12), second chance scoring (19-2) and fast break success (17-0). The Tech bench also outscored its counterparts 16-6.
•Brooks was able to rotate 10 athletes into the game with four: Soule, Ashley Owusu, Clara Ford and Charlise Dunn making their VT debuts.
INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
•King had a memorable night, recording a career-high 33 points. The senior guard did so by going 9-for-16 from beyond the arc, setting a program record for 3FG in a single contest. She accomplished the feat in just 24 minutes on the floor.
•Elizabeth Kitley also turned in an efficient performance, posting 18 points on seven shot attempts, one of which was a 3-pointer that she connected on, and the preseason ACC Player of the Year made all seven free throw attempts. She led the team with nine rebounds and also rejected six shots.

•Owusu also made her debut, scoring nine points on 4-of-8 shooting. The senior guard added two rebounds and four assists.
•Point guard Georgia Amoore found a multitude of ways to help her team win recording 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds. She tied her career highs in both assists and boards in the game and she had the best plus/minus on the team at +44.
•Traylor came off the bench to score 11 points (4-for-8 FG) and she added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. The steals took her career tally to 101.
•Aussie Charlise Dunn earned her first collegiate minutes and she finished the game with five points. She banked in a 3FG, her first bucket in a Hokie uniform.
