  • Ben Martino tied his season high in saves with seven. No save was more clutch than his diving one-handed effort with less than two minutes to go.

IMPACT FRESHMEN

  • Virginia Tech's freshmen class has been called on a lot this season, including in Wednesday's match when they accounted for a goal and two assists.
  • Five freshmen have appeared for the Hokies, including three (Haugli, Howard and Yoshizawa) have made starts.

FIRST CLASS

  • Senior Daniel Starr stepped up in a big way on Wednesday against No. 11 Louisville.
  • In the first half he did a great job creating chances then finished one in the second half with the 55th minute game-winning goal.
  • The goal was the second of his career and his first game winner.
  • Off the field, Starr has a pilots license and enjoys flying in his free time. He plans on pursuing a Master's in Aviation and fly for an airline after graduation.
