BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech, inspired by another strong offensive outing by Sean Pedulla, moved to 7-1 on Monday night with a 67-57 win over Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

SEANNY P SETS THE TONE

  • Pedulla led the Hokies in scoring for the fifth time this season with 17 points, marking the sixth time that the sophomore guard has scored 17+ points this season.
  • With the game tied at 22 with 6:33 remaining in the first half, Pedulla took control and contributed 11 points in less than a five-minute span as the Hokies went on a 13-0 run.
  • Along with scoring, Pedulla matched his career-best rebound tally with four for the fifth time this season.
  • The country is beginning to take notice of the Edmond, Okla. native's breakout season. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein chimed in after Monday's game in a tweet saying, "Sean Pedulla might be the most improved guard in the country."

BASILE'S WELL-ROUNDED NIGHT

  • Although he didn't put up the remarkable scoring numbers that Tech fans have seen earlier in the season, Grant Basile put together a noteworthy stat line against Minnesota.
  • The transfer from Wright State tied his career high with four blocks, as the Hokies set a new season high in the same statistic as a team with eight.
  • Basile also cracked eight rebounds for the second time this season.

SO CLOSE, J-MUTTY

  • While repping a pair of custom-made kicks, Justyn Mutts fell one rebound short of a double-double for the third-consecutive game.
  • Mutts, who has 19 career double-doubles, has fallen one board short of a double-double ten times in his career.
