BLACKSBURG – Three members of the Virginia Tech volleyball team were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. Cera Powell, Logan Mosley and Anabel Zier were recognized for their performance on the court and in the classroom.
The 2022 Academic All-District Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances. Student-athletes are recognized for having a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
The current kills and points leader for the Hokies, Powell has recorded 270 kills in 2022, almost 100 more than the next Hokie. She is averaging 2.81 kills per set with 3.13 points per set. The outside hitter has 300.5 total points and also has 20 service aces on the year. Defensively, Powell has posted 168 digs and 20 blocks.
Mosley ranks third on the team with 196 digs and 1.90 digs per set. She is one of three Hokies who have played in every set this season and has a .938 reception percentage on 434 attempts. Mosley also has 20 service aces on the year. Recently, the defensive specialist moved up to eighth all time in career digs. The senior has 1,280 over her four-year career.
Leading the Hokie block, Zier has 98 total in 2023 with 85 block assists and 13 solo blocks. She is averaging 1.03 blocks per set and has recorded only nine errors. Offensively, Zier has one of the best hitting percentages on the team with a .324. The senior has 141 kills, averaging 1.48 per set. She is also averaging 2.29 points per set this season.
