CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell in five sets (15-25, 25-19, 14-25, 28-26, 9-15) to the Boston College Eagles Saturday on the road at Connell Recreation Center.
The loss dropped Virginia Tech's record to 11-17 overall and 4-13 in ACC play.
The Hokies offense was paced by Cera Powell, who finished with 14 kills on the day, and by Sydney Petersen, who had 12 while hitting .333. The Hokies had three players reach double figures in digs, including Maddie Slagle's 19, 13 from Logan Mosley, and 12 more from Hanna Borer. From the front row, Cara Lewis contributed six blocks.

How It Happened
The Hokies found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-15. Boston College took the lead to open the match and never trailed to take the first set. The Hokies hit just .083 in the first set and Powell led the way with four kills. Logan Mosley started off the match strong with six digs.
Virginia Tech fired back from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-19, tying the match at 1-1. The Hokies took the set with the help of a solid showing on the attacking end. Virginia Tech put together a .500 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win, its best offensive numbers of the match. The Hokies opened up a 21-14 lead in the stanza and took the victory from there. The Virginia Tech offense also got a boost from three aces. The front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Boston College attacks.
Boston College grabbed a 2-1 match lead after defeating the Hokies in the third set. The Hokies dropped a tough set 25-14. Virginia Tech trailed by as many as 11 points as Boston College grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was knotted up three times before the Eagles took over the lead.
Virginia Tech then responded to secure set four 28-26 to force a fifth set. The Hokies grabbed control of the set at 4-3 and never looked back. Virginia Tech led by eight points at 22-14 before closing out the set. Virginia Tech also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set. The Hokies hit .200 in the fourth set with 13 kills. Mosley added six digs and Borer recorded 11 assists to help the Hokies force a fifth set.
Virginia Tech came up short in a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-9, to fall in the match. The Hokies and Eagles traded points until the Eagles took over the match at 4-3. Boston College hit .500 in the first set, compared .053 from Tech. Izzy Clavenna eded the match for the Eagles with 14 kills. Anna Murphy had a match-high 17 digs and Grace Penn added 29 assists.
The Hokies will close out the ACC season next Friday, hosting Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
