Virginia Tech falls 2-0 in the First Round against West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Virginia Tech's season came to an end on Sunday, falling 2-0 to West Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
 
Virginia Tech earned the program's 13th all-time berth into the NCAA Tournament, its fourth within the last five seasons (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022). Under head coach Chugger Adair, the Hokies record falls to 11-9-1 while playing in the tournament.
 
Virginia Tech (10-7-2) fought an 8-2 shots on goal deficit versus the Mountaineers (11-4-7), allowing two goals in the second half. Tech kept West Virginia scoreless in the first half, before surrendering the first goal to the Mountaineers in the 49th minute by Aria Bilal.
 
The Mountaineers secured the win with a second goal in the 81st by Isabel Loza (2-0). Lauren Hargrove made six saves in the match to hold it within two.
 
In the end, the Hokies were unable to overcome the Mountaineers, Tech also conceded the 6-3 difference in corners.
 
With Sunday's defeat, Virginia Tech's record during the first round of the NCAA tournament drops to 7-6-0 all-time (4-4-0 away matches).
